  マリナーズが連勝スタート

マリナーズは４日（日本時間）、本拠地セーフコ・フィールドにアスレチックスとの開幕３連戦第２戦を行い、イチローと城島のタイムリーなどで８－４で勝利。見事に開幕２連勝を飾った。 
 
　開幕戦と同様、「１番・センター」で先発出場したイチローは、２打席凡退後の第３打席でセンター前に今季初のタイムリーを放つと、続く第４打席では今季初の三塁打で、２打席連続の打点を記録した。この日は４打数２安打２打点。また、開幕戦でヒットのなかった「７番・キャッチャー」の城島も、第２打席でライトにタイムリー二塁打を放ち、初安打をマークした。城島は３打数１安打１打点。 
 
　試合は、マリナーズが２回表に先制を許すも、その裏にセクソンの２試合連続となる２ランで逆転に成功。５回にはイチローと城島のタイムリーで２点を追加した。７回表に同点に追いつかれるが、その裏、すかさずベタンコートの２ランとイチローの三塁打などで４点を加えて突き放した。
